I really like quality software, written by indie Mac developers, and Linkinus is no exception. When I saw it, I bought it. I loved it. There is no better IRC client for the Mac, in my opinion.

That said, I ran into some issues with Linkinus… my response to said issues was to submit bugs, and wait. I had no idea how many things the Conceited Software dudes were up to, and already had on their plate.

I spoke with drudge about it in #linkinus, and he was refreshingly candid with me. I asked him how I could help…. so here I am.

My name is Aaron. On IRC, I go by SuperLag. I currently hail from the Portland, OR area.

My goal is to be the face of support for Conceited Software, and talk about their products. My goal is to educate users about the quality software that we’re making, and help make it even better.

This will include handling support requests on IRC, and working through bug submissions and feature requests, as well as writing posts about ways to make your work easier by using our products.

I will be available for support in the various product channels on Conceited’s IRC network, as well as via email.

On a related note, we have just posted updates to a few of our apps:

- Linkinus 2.1.2: added list-only modes and icon/list toggles to the network picker, channel lists and ban lists. Also fixes a crash when connecting to certain IRC networks.

- HealthNut 1.0.2: implemented move and copy operations from one day to another, improved toolbar and richer Journal contextual menus

- Tracks 1.0: added the ability to extend local iTunes searches to iTunes music store songs and play their previews.

Remember, the Indie+Relief operation lasts only one day, so act fast!

We’re thrilled to announce the availability of Linkinus 2.0.2 and Clips 1.5, both now with full compatibility with Snow Leopard as well as something brand new: Chill Pill 1.0 – Mac integration with the Fever RSS reader by Shaun Inman.

Linkinus

Aside from Snow Leopard, 2.0.2 brings numerous new features and bug fixes. Variant support was added for styles, the filter list usability has been greatly improved, two new styles have been introduced: a completely rewritten version of Simplified, dubbed 2.0 by Ben Alman (aka Cowboy), and I Are Sea!, and irssi-inspired style that should please even the most hardcore of IRC users. Clips

We didn’t stop with Linkinus! Clips 1.5 brings about some much anticipated performance increases. We are always looking for feedback or feature requests, if you have an idea that you’d like to see make it into Clips, drop us a line. For a full set of changes, please see the release notes.

Chill Pill

Chill Pill allows you to enjoy Fever’s rich RSS experience while taking advantage of Cocoa and all of the other modern technologies in Mac OS X.

Updated Scripts

Some users on our forums have asked us if the community script archive is still available, we can assure that it is alive and well. We are always ready to post new/updated scripts.

Please submit your new or updated scripts to us via the contact form. Please specify your name so we can give you credit, and attach a copy of the script so we don’t have to go searching for it.

New Scripts

1. netinfo – Output network usage for all interfaces to the current channel. Created by Nicholas Penree per request on forum.
2. rot13 – Output given text with rot13 cypher to the current channel. Created by Tobias Tom.
3. flip – Output text flipped upside down to the current channel. Created by Tobia Tom.
4. xbl – Output XBOX Live statistics for a given gamer tag to the current channel. Created by chapel per forum post.

Updated Scripts

1. slap – Updated the original slap script to add support for multiple items and random slaps. Created by Okeanos and chapel, based on original work by Nicholas Penree per forum post.

Reminder: You can download all the new scripts and update your existing ones with one simple command: /getscript -all from inside Linkinus itself.

Getscript.. what is that?

Getscript is a feature included in Linkinus 1.2 and up that allows you to install or update scripts by simply requesting it via a /getscript scriptname from inside Linkinus. This makes it extremely easy to install new scripts created by the great Linkinus community, and also make sure your scripts are always up to date with the latest features.Even though this feature is not new to 1.3, we felt as though it was not being used at much as it could be. We wanted to write this post to give you a little primer in how this will make your life a little easier. No more searching for plugins or scripts via google or forums, simply execute a command while your in Linkinus and instantly download and install all your favorite plugins

Sounds good, but are there really more scripts available?

New scripts are being created almost everyday by the ever-growing Linkinus community. We will be posting new editions or updates to our Getscript repository on our blog, so make sure you subscribe to our RSS feed to stay notified of any changes.

Do I have to get them one-by-one? I’m a busy person!

Getscript does allow you to fetch an individual script if you would like by simply using the /getscript scriptname command (e.g. /getscript itunes). If you prefer to grab them all you can use /getscript -all and it will download/update all available scripts and reload the new versions automatically.

How do I get my script available inside the Getscript command?

If you would like your script to be easily installed, simply email us using our contact form and specify “Addon Submission” as the subject or drop by our IRC chatroom and let us know!

What’s next?

Getscript is currently being expanded to cover more than just scripts. Look for future versions which will include support for plugins and styles as well!

Dear All,

As some of you already know if you’ve been hanging out with us on IRC, we have switched our primary focus from “implementing new features quickly” to “working on the big picture and improving overall performance”.

One of the major changes we have been planning is merging the Linkinus and Linkinus Agent applications. This improves overall RAM consumption as well as CPU activity, and fixed a couple of bugs along the way (especially for those of you who’ve been trying to use Logitech Control Center lately).

The reason for this blog post is we’re not sure yet if we want to release this as a separate “lite” version of Linkinus, or simply provide it as an update to the regular version. This is where I need you, dear users! What would you prefer? Or rather, how many of you actually swear by that subtle detaching feature Linkinus currently enjoys?

PS: As all of you probably noticed, development is not as active and intense today as it once was. Not to worry; it is scheduled to be resumed to full speed in late August May when I actually get my life back.

Some news regarding Linkinus development:

1. We have given up on our old bug tracking system and are now using a better and brighter piece of software, LightHouse. Thanks a lot to drudge for porting the website and jago for bearing with us! The URL is still the same: http://dev.linkinus.com. Feel free to open tickets!
2. As some of you Leopard users may have noticed, reattaching Linkinus to Linkinus Agent after force-quitting, killing or crashing the former currently fails under certain circumstances on Leopard. This has been worked on and will soon be thoroughly tested by our betatesters.
3. As far as actual features as concerned, we are currently focusing on some of our most requested ones. For instance, built-in Blowfish support has just been implemented and will be available in the next nightly build and public release.

Again, your opinion matters – so feel free to contribute to the development site if you feel something’s missing!

Hey

As Jago pointed out, there has not been a public Linkinus update in nearly 3 months. Betatesters however have enjoyed many a nightly Linkinus build.

With Leopard coming soon, I feel it is time to stop testing and publicly update Linkinus. Version 1.1 already worked fine on Leopard seeds but a few visual glitches remained that needed to be fixed.

I am therefore glad to announce that Linkinus 1.2 will be available on this website and all over the Web tomorrow Thursday, October 25.

It will be a free update to everybody. I hope this post clears things up for many users who want to update to Leopard on the very day it is released (October 26) and were not sure if Linkinus and Leopard would shake hands.
